Nordic Morning contributes to young people’s well-being
Since 2014, Nordic Morning has been supporting the Mahis program, operated by the Finnish Youth Academy. In 2015, we supported a total of seven communication projects in different parts of Finland.
Mahis aims to prevent the social exclusion of young people by making an early intervention. The program offers young people the chance to take part in leisure activities, and strengthens their ability to control their own lives. This is overseen by a trained adult who is capable of giving young people the time and attention they need. In the past 17 years, Mahis has supported more than 1,700 projects created by young people.
Nordic Morning became a Mahis partner in 2014. Timo Lepistö, CEO of Nordic Morning, explains why the Group wants to be involved in preventing the social exclusion of young people.
“Mahis offers youths something to do, so they can have the opportunity to fulfil themselves and learn new things together with other young people,” he says. “For us as a communications group, the partnership with Mahis is a wonderful opportunity to inspire young people to get involved in communication and to support them with our expertise.”
The support that Nordic Morning provides is allocated for communication projects. In 2015, we contributed to seven projects, two of which have focused on photography. In another project, a group of young immigrants are producing a cookbook based on their own recipes.
Another two projects are drama-related: one is a play produced and performed on stage; the other is a film for which the young people’s group supplied the manuscript, and did the shooting and editing.
Finally, we have supported two projects that have both involved organizing an event and marketing it to selected target groups. One of these is a boy’s night at a local youth club, arranged by a group of young boys. The second will be organized by a group of teenagers for younger kids to encourage them to participate in positive and meaningful activities.
